MINDfulness
Today I’m doing something a little different. I’m plucking up the courage to write a post instead of hiding behind the colours and symbols of a cross stitch chart.
Birdie Stitching is 10 years old next year, and still going strong. That’s 10 years of patterns for free. Over 3000 patterns! (Don’t ask me how many stitches that is).
I find pattern making extremely soothing when I’m anxious, and I know from experience that cross stitching has the same effect. Cross stitching, crafting or any kind of creativity is hugely beneficial for our mental health, especially for those of us with a physical disability that reduce our opportunities to take part in physical activities that are good for mental health.
I know that you feel the benefits too, so many of you send kind messages and pictures of what you’ve created and how it’s helped you.
I don’t know anyone who has never suffered from a mental health issue at some point in their lives, loved ones, colleagues, and many of you.
That’s why, this year, I’d like to ask you to consider making a donation to charity. My company charity this year is Mind – a UK charity supporting people with mental health issues. I’ve set up a fundraising page, and would be very grateful if you would consider donating an amount – any amount, for the amazing work that these people do.
